woodstock, ny
Woodstock is one of those mythic towns whose reputation seems to stretch across the country and even the world. A music and arts hub since its days as an artist colony in the early 1900’s, Woodstock has long been a center for the creative and eccentric. Although the famed 1969 Woodstock concert did not actually take place here, its identity has certainly been tied to that tie dye covered era and continues to color the town to this day. With an exceptionally cute main street made up of charming shops, restaurants, galleries and music venues, it’s hard not to fall for the charm of this Hudson Valley gem. Plan to park the car and spend your weekend on foot, stepping into independent shops like The Golden Notebook Bookstore, Three Turtle Doves for exceptional vintage clothing, or Ever Records to expand your vinyl collection with artists like Bob Dylan and The Band, both of which have deep connections to the town. Grab a bite at Shindig before heading to a concert at Colony, a music venue dating back to 1929, or visit Upstate Films for an independent movie in their one-screen movie house. Once you visit, you will more than likely plan a quick return as there is an ever expanding list of wonderful activities in Woodstock for every kind of traveler.
