a night at the Greenville Drive-In
It is always bittersweet saying goodbye to another memorable summer upstate. To ease the heartache of having to switch out our swimsuits for sweaters, we thought it best to embrace the seasonal change with an end-of-summer celebration at one of our favorite upstate destinations: The Greenville Drive-In. Set in a rural field off Route 32 in the town of Greenville, we collaborated with Zio & Sons to create a nostalgic cinematic experience sweetened with the comforts of simpler times. There may have been a nip in the air, but spirits were warm as ticket holders arrived ready to enjoy a night of local food, movie themed cocktails, live music from rock band Another Castle, and a screening of “Back to the Future” on an 80-foot wide screen, the Catskill Mountains silhouetted against the sky. We had beautiful antique servingware on display from I.U. Tripp & Co., farm-made root beer floats courtesy of Heather Ridge Farm, and flowers freshly foraged from Tiny Hearts Farm. As night fell, we drifted off with popcorn toward our toasty vehicles and tuned the radios to 88.7 to watch the movie from the comfort of our cars. Under the stars with friends and loved ones, we enjoyed an old classic that had us laughing and feeling like kids again. It was the perfect note to end summer on. Thank you to all who came out that night. Let’s do it again soon!

When we first visited The Greenville Drive-In at the beginning of summer, it was these ‘50’s era pickup truck popcorn containers that left us reeling. Charming mementos like these can be found at every turn when visiting the drive-in, including snacks and relics that change depending on the movie of the night.
Illustrated by Al Stampa and designed by And North's Design Director Tim LaSalle, tickets to the event were meant to incite a feeling of nostalgia for guests and were shared by hand upon arrival.

Another Castle band members Dayna Webber, Joshua Chaplin, John Callegari, and Sean Tuccillo got us amped up for the movie with a lively mix of covers and original songs, including Back to the Future’s definitive song “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry.

We were so pleased to have I.U. Tripp & Co.’s gorgeous antiques and collectibles on display for the event. We are such admirers of their shop, located in an 1888 Victorian General Store in nearby Oak Hill, filled to the brim with everything from china, glassware, and pottery, to vintage clothing, books, and gift items.

Throughout summer, the Greenville Drive-In does an amazing job of supporting an array of New York State food products and businesses. Some of their standouts include ice cream from 2 Twisted Ladies in Greenville, popsicles from ReFresh in Earlton, and Chilly Dilly Pickle on a Stick from Brine Barrel in Saugerties. At the drive-in event, moviegoers were treated to their choice of either homemade chili, rice and beans, or two hot dogs topped with locally made sauerkraut or kim chee from Sauerkraut Seth’s in Hudson.
We were so thrilled to welcome friends from nearby and the city to our Night at the Drive-In. Especially the little one whose parents waited for this very night to show him his first movie!
Served both hot and cold, it was hard to choose from the drive-in’s selection of homemade cocktails. Owners Leigh and Dwight have future plans to start a vermouth distillery on the premises, so it is fair to say that they know their way around a dry martini.
Craftsman Matt Hogan, of Reliquary Studio, and designer Alane Hogan, came prepared to watch the movie on the bed of their truck, gussied up with blankets, mattress pads, and pillows. It was the car to be in as soon as the sun went down.
Creative Director Emma Tuccillo and Zio & Sons founder Anthony D’Argenzio take a quick break to sample some of the popcorn, most of which ended up on the ground.
We couldn’t pass up serving this soda-fountain favorite from one of our favorite local farms. The artisanal root beer floats from Heather Ridge Farm were beyond delicious and such a special treat. On your next trip upstate, we recommend visiting this lovely farm, store, and cafe in Preston Hollow, open year-round for tours, brunch, lunch, and monthly supper clubs that feature farmed and foraged local ingredients in special dishes created by Chef Rob Handel.
