beacon, ny

Head up the river to Beacon, NY, a popular arts and culture hub perched above the scenic Highlands and the Hudson River. With a rich history that goes back past the Revolutionary War and then as an industrial center in the 1800’s, Beacon has undergone many iterations over the years and is now a well established destination with renowned shops, restaurants, and art galleries, including the world famous contemporary art museum, Dia Beacon. Wander along the long main street which features stunning brick buildings, former industrial factories, and dramatic waterfalls that once acted as a turbine for the many hat factories of the time. For nature, take a stroll along Denning’s Point, a waterfront park and Center for Environmental Innovation and Education or visit Long Dock Park, a meandering trail along the river with epic sunsets. Whether it’s culture, art, or nature you seek, there is something for everyone in this popular upstate city just 60 miles north of New York City (plus, it’s accessible by Metro North train and the ride up the river couldn’t be lovelier).
