You’re Invited to The 2018 Soirée on the Railway
Traveling through the midsummer Catskill Mountains on a vintage train, we invite you to join us for the second annual Soirée on the Railway, a lavish gathering to honor the bygone glamour of train travel to the Catskills’ famed resorts.
Arrive dressed to the nines at the Ulster and Delaware Railroad for a journey through the bucolic landscape, coasting by scenery only visible from these heritage tracks.
As the trailing sun sets, champagne will pour as Brushland Eating House presents their Catskills-inspired menu, a roving meal comprised of small plates to enjoy while wandering the train cars. When the train reverses course, the evening will culminate in the open-air car, where we’ll gather for a live musical performance under the full moon. Travel back in time with us for a true celebration of the Catskills then and now.
Take a look at last year’s blog post on the first annual Soirée for inspiration.

We are thrilled to be partnering again with Brushland Eating House for this lavish gathering. Named one of the greatest restaurants in the world by Condé Nast Traveler, Brushland brilliantly combines upstate ingredients with skilled culinary techniques that highlight the agricultural diversity of the region.
The Catskills, famously referred to as the “Borscht Belt,” once attracted hundreds of thousands of first and second generation immigrants looking for a fun-filled summer respite from life in the sweltering city. Throughout the mid-twentieth century, the Catskills became the preemptive mecca for families in search of a bucolic retreat, as well as an outlet for musicians and stand-up comedians looking to strike it big. Careers were made on the stages of legendary resorts like Kutsher’s in Monticello and Grossinger’s in Liberty, graced by such acts as Louis Armstrong and Mel Brooks.
Catskill Carriage, the new high-end coach operator with service between NYC and the Catskills, is pleased to offer a very special Hudson Valley Express Line Aug 3rd and 5th, departing from and returning to midtown west. With service to Mohonk Mountain House, Kingston, Phoenicia and Scribner’s Lodge, riders will enjoy Wifi, Aesop vanity products, and beverage and snack service. All guests, regardless of their destination, will be automatically entered to win a $500 gift card to Mohonk Mountain House. For details, schedule and tickets visit this link.
Buried deep in the heart of the Catskills, Scribner’s Lodge is a gorgeous escape featuring fireplaces, private balconies, and Prospect: their in-house restaurant serving brunch, cocktails, and dinner. Originally opened in 1966, the 38-room hotel at the base of Hunter Mountain is a chic spot to call home for a weekend.
