A Spring Social with Hudson River Exchange at Fish & Game in Hudson, NY

Last Thursday we gathered in Hudson, NY to host a Spring Social with Hudson River Exchange in celebration of the Hudson Valley’s creative community. We invited 35 guests to join us for a buffet style dinner at Fish & Game, a restaurant devoted to using the highest quality ingredients from nearby farms. Our guests — makers, farmers and local business owners — all had a clear passion for this area of the world.

When we arrived to set the tables and organize the space, Fish & Game was already in full swing. A locally sourced pork shoulder was roasting over an open fire pit in the brick walled dining room. Our guests were ushered into the bar area as they arrived, an elegant space with lined shelves of mismatched vintage glassware. After local cider was poured and passed, our Event Director Katie Lobel, toasted to the makers that made our night possible.

Dinner, which included ingredients from 16 nearby farms, was served in the pass through kitchen. Everyone helped themselves to slices of pork shoulder, rotisserie potatoes, spiced tomato soup, grilled cheese, and locally grown rice served ulam style. The dining room was full of conversation as new friends and connections were formed.

Nights like these allow us to celebrate the beauty of this area by bringing together a growing community of talented people. It was a great joy to overhear conversations where strangers shared ideas and inspiration with one another. We look forward to many more gatherings of this kind.

Caiti Hawkins, a Hudson based floral designer prepared bouquets in the private dining room upstairs. A mix of foraged and flower farm grown blooms were scattered on a long table, getting ready to be placed in vases created by ceramicist Daniel Bellow.

“Zak and Jori have been tremendous supporters and participants in Hudson River Exchange projects,” says Stella Yoon co-founder of Hudson River Exchange. “So when presented with the opportunity to co-host an evening at Fish & Game, it was such a natural melding of worlds to invite the creatives in our community to share food and drink.”
